OK I understand to apply after welding but I found nothing detailing about welding after you have already applied. I also know the Rust Seal is thermal resistand to 600 degrees. I will be welding some floor pans in a vehicle and have U shaped supports for the floor pans. I plan on appling Rust Seal to the bottom on the U on the inside where I can't get to after welding. The U channel has two tabs approx 1/2 inch in width with another 1/2 inch going down then 2 inches across the bottom then goes back up 1/2 inch to the other tab. The tabs are where the spot welds will go. The metal is 1/32-1/16th of a inch thick with sheet metal for the floor pans. The Underseal Spray Gun …

I'm planning to use Rust Seal and the Nu Metal to fill and seal the top window frame on my 81 corvette. the metal is pitted but no holes. Should I use the Nu Metal first or use the Rust Seal, then scuff and then use the Rust Seal. Also, I will be using the Top Coat, so I'm assuming that it should be last. Will all of the products give me a water tight seal when I put the new winsheild back in? Can I use the same type of seal for the window? Will there be any chemical reaction between the window seal and the Top Coat, Rust Seal, or Nu Metal. Any suggestions for the best results would be appreciated. thanks,

I am trying to decide whether to use KBS rustseal and/or Penatrol underneath my new vehicle. I need to coat inside the chassis cavity, underbody, external chassis and there are UV exposed rear crossmembers and tow bar areas to protect. Does rustseal offer comparative penetration as Penatrol and does it have a corrosion inhibitor aswell? Why would rust seal be better than Penatrol? Can I use rustseal then put Penatrol on top if required? I have been told that rustseal will not stick to Penatrol if using Penatrol first.

I was wondering if i could use the stop rust products on a trailer. I need a tough coating on it due to paint getting scratched off. I noticed that if this product is exposed to alot of sunlight it will discolor, but will it keep its finish if i apply the diamond coat clear coat over the stop rust paint?

I have an 8oz can of silver color RustSeal. I stirred for half an hour and could not get a consistent solution in the can. No matter how I stirred it, I could not get rid of the dark streaks of ? in the paint- the part that is in the top of the can when you first open it you know. Is this just a characteristic of silver paint?

Just finished my truck floor as per your instructions. I have bubbling in a few areas which I think happened only when I applied second coat. I will lightly sand smooth and repaint. Product seems great. Really solid finish in all other areas. The problem areas were most likely due to improper finishing by me. I would like to apply a third coat. Does it matter much if I do a third coat after the the cure?

Can I paint RustSeal over factory frame paint? I live in upstate New York and I just bought an SUV and I want to get a good frame paint on it for rust prevention from the road salts and such. If I can paint the RustSeal over the factory paint, the frame paint is a dull black, so what prep would I need to do so I can coat it with RustSeal?

I am looking at purchasing a product to paint the rusted frame of my Jeep Wrangler as well as to protect the bottom of the body. Several products all make the same claims, KBS, Rust Bullet, and Chassis Saver by Magnet paints. Can you please tell me why KBS Rust Seal is the surperior product. I intend to keep my Jeep for a long time and want to use the best possible product. Thank you.

Hello, I just got my 68 Mustang back from the sand blasting (by a professional company) and it looks like they painted the whole body in a red-brown primer for corrosion resistance. I would like to paint my complete engine compartment with the Glossy Black RustSeal, and I was wondering if I had to lightly sand the existing primer with 320 grit paper or not prior to spraying the RustSeal? Of course, everything will be cleaned with degreaser afterwards. For info, I don't want to sand everything to bare metal! My other question is: do I have to thin the RustSeal if I spray with an HVLP gun with a 1.4 nozzle? Thanks for your support, great products so far! Olive…

Hi, I'm replacing the truck floor of my '70 valiant and will be welding it in from the original spot welds. I have cleaned and rust blasted the areas, however i plan to weld through prime the areas i intend to weld first then rust seal the entire area (chassis rail) prior to welding. I'm doning this so when the weld burns up the rust seal there will still be protection from the weld through prime. Is this a good idea and will it work with the rust seal? Thanks Paul

All interior items on my 69 Mustang have been removed. I'm looking at using painting all exposed metal with rustseal. My question is, will spray adhesive (like 3M) adhere to the rustseal for glueing the headliner and carpet? I'm also planning on using dynamat on the floor, trunk, and underside of the roof, any problems with the dynamat sticking? Will I need to scuff the rustseal before using adhesive? Finally, the body and paint work has been done on the exterior. How careful do I need to be with the aqua clean and rust blast? Any suggestions for doing proper prep on the interior without harming the exterior? Thanks in advance for any help.

first of all i have had great success with most products used from KBS the biggest issue i have been having is that i get alot of runs in some irregualr shaped parts im sure i can avoid that by brushing it on alot thinner and not as heavy the opther thing is that i see alot of air bubles of some sort on few areas of the material after dried. what causes this? needs to be stired more? thined out or reduced? its making my restoration look of poor quality when its really not, please give me some input on this so i can correct the problem. i can include pictures if needwed.

I bought a gallon of the rust blast and a gallon of the silver rust sealer. I removed all of the flakey rust and loose paint with a 5" wire wheel on my side grinder. I then sanded the entire trailer(outside) with 80 grit. I then used the rust blast in the spots where there was active rust. I did small areas at a time so I could keep it wet for at least an hour. I washed off the trailer and painted the entire trailer with a thin coat using a brush so I could get every nook and cranny. Any of the areas that had a run or if the paint was heavier, the paint drys with a "beaded up" look. Looks terrible. Those areas have to be completely sanded down almost to metal. So I decide…

I read the section on Rustseal color choice on the website but I thought I would post the question to be sure I dont misunderstand. Is there a real durablity difference between the different colors? And if so, could you please elaborate? My application will be on an indoor high traffic motorcycle hydraulic lift, so it would have the usual tools, parts, and mild chemicals exposure on it. I'm partial to the gloss black but would gladly sacrifice color, for durablity. The lift is 1/4" steel diamond plate that measures 7'x2', and I'd like to coat the top with 2-3 coats,( is 2 coats enough?) and the bottom with one coat. Will a pint will cover 56 sq ft? Any adv…

Stayed up till 3am (waited for kids to be in bed) to spray for my first time ever. I sprayed a cab with 2 coats of rust seal and noticed some runs and dust in the finish this morning. I know rust seal is not a finish coat, but I want to eliminate the flaws before I spray a top. 1.How long should I wait before I sand out the imperfections? 2.Would 400 grit work well enough? 3.After sanding the rustseal smooth, do I have to reapply another coat of rust seal or can I just continue with the top coat. Thanks

I'm restoring a motorcycle that I think had a factory powder coated frame. I had planned to get the frame and several brackets sandblasted and powder coated, but now I'm wondering if the KBS Chassis Coater kit plus a Topcoat might produce similar results. It would save me some money and reduce the amount of work required in masking every threaded hole, plus I get that DIY satisfaction. What do you think? PS, I will be using the KBS Motorcycle Tank Sealer kit on the tank as well...

I have a snow plow that I intend to sandblast, then RustBlast and RustSeal. I would like to topcoat it with a color that matches the red RustSeal very closely. A few questions: I want to confirm that if I spray on my topcoat within 6-12 hours (according do your diagram here: http://www.kbs-coatings.com/Flow-Chart--RustSeal-on-Steel_ep_87-1.html) I do not need to sand and etch it as long as I do it within this timeframe correct? What categories of topcoat paints (a brand recommendation would be nice), in your experience, adhere well. I'm looking for a UV protective option. Are the paints I should avoid? Lastly, I anticipate 3 coats of RustSeal. Is a quart enough …

Hi; I am just wondering how will the KBS galv finish come up after brushing? I have been told it is best to spray it to get a uniform, flat finish. I am painting a fuel tank that will be visible from inside the boot of the car, so it needs to look A1 If I get a much better result from spraying I will go that extra mile, but if the result is the same, ill go the brush route. Hello, I just ordered a quart of KBS rustseal in iron oxide. My plan is to use this to seal the internal casting surfaces of an outboard marine engine. The internal parts of the engine were originally painted with a ferrous chrome primer - of course which, is no longer available. After a long search for a substitute paint, I found your product. My question is weather the paint will withstand application to water jacket surfaces that will be constantly wet with water up to 180 degrees F. The paint will also be applied to the crankcases where raw gasoline/oil vapor (2 cycle) will constantly wash over it. These surfaces will all be media blasted with Aluminum Oxide - a…

My motorcycle is kinda beat up, so I've decided not to apply a top coat to the RustSeal since I understand that any degradation of the RustSeal coating will be purely cosmetic. Is this correct? Also, how will the RustSeal (satin black) degrade? Will it just lose it's sheen, or will it turn grey or something?

I am going to be doing the entire cab and bed of my truck with RustSeal and was wondering if there is any difference in these two colors or do they work the same? Does the silver have added metal in it to help with rust and pitting or any other added benefits? I am going to be using the "satin" BlackTop paint over the RustSeal in areas that will not be covered with carpeting. Will the "satin" BlackTop paint cover and work over the "silver" RustSeal, or do you suggest using the "satin" colored Rustseal as a bottom base instead? Sorry for the rambling, but thanks for any help you can suggest on this.

My situation is the garage floor was poured about twenty years ago. I have never seen any evidence of mineral salts or water coming up through the surface. About fifteen years ago I etched the concrete with Muriatic acid and painted it was “garage floor paint†I bought at Sears. The paint has never flaked or chipped. It has worn off where the cars drive on it. I want a new finish that will be durable, easy to clean, isn’t slippery to walk on and, if I could have my way, shiny too. So, using your product line what is the BEST way to accomplish this? AquaKlean, then Fusion Prep followed by two coats of Rust Seal? How slippery is this going to be? In a garage do I…
