  1. Hi, working on a truck at the moment. I've done used the 3 step on the chassis and Blacktop as a topcoat. I've ordered PPG 625 2K for the engine bay, bullbar and tray and had it colour matched to the vehicle colour. I have used a needle scaler and sanded to take all the paint off followed by Aquakleen and Rustblast, it's pretty good, but I'm not going to sandblast it to get a perfectly clean surface, I'm planning on a couple of coats of Rustseal before overcoating. They have recommended Epotec 408 primer surfacer under the 625 Polythane. Any compatibility issues/reactions over Rustseal? Would best idea be to spray the 408 primer surfacer a few hours after Rust…

  2. With the other brand “P**15” in the past with “their” product I would normally spray Rustoleum black while the product was still tacky before fully cured and got really nice results also saved me time not having to sand the whole frame prior to applying the top coat. Is that not a good idea? I got your satin black rust seal and was going to top coat it with rustoleum. Also which product won’t affect your product when it comes to “oil” undercoating? Lanolin based products or should I use NHOU?

  3. Can I bake RustSeal to speed up the cure time? I would like to put it in the booth and bake it.

  4. I’m just wondering what kit I should buy. I have a 1992 extended cab Chevy. Should I buy the hundred square feet to prep and paint the frame?

I used the RustBlast two weeks ago but haven't been able to do the RustSeal due to the temp and humidity being higher than the application instructions on the can. Are 80 degrees and 60% humidty the absolute highest I can apply it in? What if I applied it in the evening when it's cooler? I really need to get this done but the weather isn't cooperating.

I need to seal up some seams after welding in my patch panels in my floor. I plan to use RustSeal to encapsulate the entire area before applying any seam sealer. Is there a seam sealer (either brand or type) that you recommend which will work well with RustSeal?

Hello sirs. I have a repair that will require fiberglas paste and/or plastic filler that I wish to treat first w/the 3 step system. I understand you recommend fillers to be applied 4-12 hrs after the 2nd coat of rustseal. My question is when leveling the first coat of filler a coarse grit sandpaper will be used, and obviously will be scratching into a rustseal treated area during the leveling process. How am I to sand (level) my filler without damaging the rustseal treated area? I'm a little unclear on this. One would think you would apply your fillers after the rustblast, before using rustseal. Please elaborate. Thank you

Is rust seal better to use than a 2k epoxy primer?and if so am I to treat it like I would a epoxy, meaning ,paint the bare metal with rust seal and than scuff ,than spray couple coats of 2k high build let it cure and do my sanding?and how does rust seal work with bondo?do you paint rust seal first than bondo ,sand than 2k high over that than sand is there any particular order?thank you

Hello, I am restoring an old 1973 Ford F250 pickup, it has quite a bit of rust in/on fenders and other panels. I have purchased aftermarket patch/replacement panels for the most severe areas which come coated with EDP, on the inner parts of these panels I would like to add additional rust protection to them by using RustSeal as recommended by local paint supply store. What is the recommended prep for EDP coated panels? I believe scuff sanding prior to applying RustSeal would be sufficient but I do not see this specific information anywhere. Thank you! -Mike

  13. I just bought a 2016 GMC Sierra and the frame has what appears to be a factory rubberized or wax coating on the frame. This coating is peeling off along many of the edges and welds but is in good shape elsewhere. Must all of this coating be removed or stripped prior to using the klean/blast/seal method or can I just remove the loose/peeling parts and klean/blast/seal over the rest? Any experience? Thanks!

I'm restoring a small vintage tool box and doing the three step process to end up with hopefully a nice silver painted, rust proof tool box. My question is this small box has a piano type of hinge like many small tool boxes. I'm wondering how the paint will react with the hinge. Will it flow into the hinge and still allow the hinge to work? Or will it gum up the hinge and make a mess? Any thoughts or suggestions appreciated. Thanks!

Greetings! Many questions so please bear with me. We'll be using KBS to coat the partially-rusted interior floor (galvanized) of a school bus. We also wish to use KBS & fiberglass mesh to seal bolt / screw holes in the floor. 1) I've read 1 gallon is good for 2 coats & 200 sq ft. Is this correct? We plan on 4 coats, so for our 150 sq ft, I figured 1.5 gallons would be about right. 2) We have many old bolt/screw holes to fill using fiberglass mesh. Smaller holes ~2mm diameter, larger holes ~10mm. Would you recommend we lay down the fiberglass on first coating and then just lay down successive coats as usual, or should we patch and coat the holes as a…

When trying to coat steel tread plate with Rust Seal we are running into a problem where the self leveling properties of the coating prevent the edges of the diamonds from being coated. Is there a trick to this?

  18. i just sandblasted the undercarriage of my 67 fastback. after blasting i used eastwoods "afterblast" product to keep the metal from rusting. can rust seal be applied on the metal after the afterblast from eastwood which i believe is just a phosphoric coating?

Wondering how much heat Rust Seal will tolerate. Am re-doing re-packable motorcycle mufflers and thinking about coating the internal baffle with Rust Seal. Otherwise, I can use the Xtreme Hi-Temp coatings that I have. Just thought that Rust Seal due to its consistency, might be a little more tenacious if it would tolerate say, 400º Thank you!

Hi, I'm about to paint my freshly built steel trailer (mostly c channel - black steel). I'm going to follow the 3 step process no problem. Now I have 1l of POR15 gloss black that I'd like to use up first. Is it ok to use Rust Seal over P@&15 for the 2nd coat? Thanks

I have a bunch of small springs for car hoods. I want to paint them with Rust Seal and Black Top but it would be nearly impossible to brush or spray it on. I've dipped a couple of them but It gets a little thick at the bottom once it sits there for a little bit. Do you have any suggestions that could help with the paint running and building up at the bottom?

  28. I been thinking about using KBS Rust Seal to make Anti-Skid on my car trailer with 12 mesh brown Aluminum Oxide Grit. What would you do different i.e. reduce, not reduce, spray not spray, brush not brush etc. 1. Three step system for rust protection. 2. Roll on one coat Galvanized Steel Rust seal. 3. Brush on second coat Rust seal and every six inches put down 12 mesh brown Aluminum Oxide Grit.4.One more rust seal coat. 5.Spray Fusion Self-Etch Primer. 6. Spray Top coat with KBS Black top OEM Stain black.

I'm painting my truck frame but I'm only able to paint the sides and bottom of it. The reason for this is because I'm not taking the body off the frame so there's no way to reach the top of the frame. Would you still recommend using Rust Seal in this situation?

After applying the second coat of Rustseal, I have some blistering (as warned in the directions) due to thicker paint in some runs and tight spots that were not completely dry. I am not concerned with the appearance, only the integrity of the paint. Will the blistered areas provide the rust protection once dry or do I need to sand it off and re-paint?

  41. Started by Guest,

I'm painting a piece of metal with Rust Seal. It has threads where I have to bolt the piece to a machine. I don't want the threads to get coated in Rust Seal where I can't use it anymore. Any recommendations with how I can prevent this from happening? I'm assuming there is something I can put on the threads where the Rust Seal won't adhere to but not real sure.

  47. Started by Guest,

I've used the rust seal before and it's extremely durable. How does the Maxx compare to the rust seal with durability?

  48. Started by althezenman,

I am sorry if this has been covered already. I am using Rustseal as a preventative measure on a motorcycle frame that only has a few small spots of rust, overall it is in perfect condition. I want to achieve a powdercoat like finish with little orange peel and high gloss. Two Questions. 1.Before using KBS Klean and RustBlast, can I sand up to 400 Grit or should I stop with 220 or 320? 2. Will a 2k Clear increase the overall gloss or is there a general consensus that it is overkill in this situation? Thanks
