October 29, 20196 yr comment_4784 I'm restoring a small vintage tool box and doing the three step process to end up with hopefully a nice silver painted, rust proof tool box. My question is this small box has a piano type of hinge like many small tool boxes. I'm wondering how the paint will react with the hinge. Will it flow into the hinge and still allow the hinge to work? Or will it gum up the hinge and make a mess? Any thoughts or suggestions appreciated. Thanks! October 30, 20196 yr comment_4786 This is a great question. Thanks for asking! When you put down 2 coats (recommended) of RustSeal on a prepped surface, you will end up with 5 mils of dry film thickness. Do you have 5 mils of clearance when the pieces of the hinge close? if you do, RustSeal would be an excellent choice for sealing up this surface. When you coat it, wait at least 24-48 hours before you operate the hinge to make sure the RustSeal is fully cured. Please let us know if this helps and if you have any additional questions.
