v7nf Posted July 20, 2018 Report Posted July 20, 2018 Is rust seal better to use than a 2k epoxy primer?and if so am I to treat it like I would a epoxy, meaning ,paint the bare metal with rust seal and than scuff ,than spray couple coats of 2k high build let it cure and do my sanding?and how does rust seal work with bondo?do you paint rust seal first than bondo ,sand than 2k high over that than sand is there any particular order?thank you Quote
KBS Coatings Posted July 21, 2018 Report Posted July 21, 2018 Yes, RustSeal is much better at preventing rust than a standard 2K Epoxy Primer. Clean the surface well first with KBS Klean and then etch well with RustBlast. There are three effective ways to topcoat RustSeal (with BlackTop, KBS Top Coater, KBS MAXX, other solid color top coat paints, 1K Primers or 2K Primers) effectively so that the coatings bond and fuse together. Please choose the one that works for your project. 1) Apply your top coat once the second or final coat of RustSeal is dry-to-the-touch and does not leave a fingerprint (usually 3-6 hours depending on temperature and humidity). 2) Let the second or final coat of RustSeal fully cure (at least 24 hours), scuff the RustSeal with 320 grit, then apply your top coat. 3) Let the second or final coat of RustSeal fully cure (at least 24 hours), dust the RustSeal with Fusion Self-Etching Primer, let the Fusion cure for 30 minutes, then apply your top coat. As for Bondo, prep and then seal the surface first with RustSeal and then apply your Bondo following the guidelines above for applying a top coat over RustSeal. Doing this allows the RustSeal to seal up the surface and prevent the Bondo from popping off. Please carefully review the complete RustSeal Directions and let us know if you have any additional questions. Thanks for contacting KBS Coatings! Quote
v7nf Posted July 21, 2018 Author Report Posted July 21, 2018 thanks for responding,Im having good results using your products so far,for me the grey rust seal is laying better than the satin black did, could have been the humidity but works great none the less. Quote
KBS Coatings Posted July 21, 2018 Report Posted July 21, 2018 Yes, RustSeal is a moisture cured urethane so the humidity and temperature will dictate how the RustSeal cures. We appreciate your kind words. Thanks for choosing KBS Coatings. Quote
Amboconvert Posted February 4, 2022 Report Posted February 4, 2022 Can you use a stronger phosphoric acid solution before the Rust Blast in order to remove/convert larger amounts of rust on a car/truck frame? Was thinking of using Rust Kutter to convert rust, washing it off, and then using the Rust Blast to etch the metal with zinc phosphate to prepare for the applicaiton of the KBS Rust Seal. Quote
