They are silver, and I want to paint them High-Gloss Black. 1) Can you tell me if you have a product to recommend? 2) Will I be better off with a base and then a clear coat, or do you have a one stage item? 3) Can I spray with a low priced HLVP?

  7. I am looking to protect the frame and underside of the body on my jeep wrangler. I have previously used the 3 step rust seal system. Looking at your site you also have a dedicated rubberized/asphalt undercoating. Would one of these be better than the other? Or are they to be used together. I was planning to do the rust seal system with a blacktop top coat on my frame.

  9. I have a variety of HDG brackets that I will be using to build a dock in a saltwater marine environment. I would like to protect the galvanized brackets by using your products. Saltwater environment, exterior. Brackets will be attached using stainless steel bolts, so I would also like to confirm if your products would eliminate the potential for an electrolytic reactions between the 2 types of metal. Any concerns with this application? Can I expect materially longer protection for the metal vs. a straight HDG coating (without any additional protection)? What combination of your products would you recommend to prepare and finish coat the brackets? Suggested …

  11. Started by Litncru,

I'm planning to build a 1951 Studebaker Pick Up Truck. It was an old farm truck and for a farm truck the body has some dents, some rusted away panels and rust. It was a good deal so I snatched it up. Just trying to get some money together and get started on it. My question was I wanted to stop the rust from continuing to eat the metal away. Should I get the every thing sandblasted to remove the existing rust and then coat it with some rust inhibitors and continue to store it until I can get some money together to start working on it. If I use the KBS Products to protect the metal, how easy is it to re-work those panels? I figure it will be a 5 year project. Anybody have a…

  13. I have a 1970 Chevy C 10 that I wanted to repaint the chassis. The pervious owner sandblaster the frame and painted it but I don't like the way it looks. Am I able to use your all-in-one chassis kit over the paint that he use or does it have to be bare metal?

  14. Started by Flyboys3,

I am in the process of coating a late 70's truck frame. I blasted the frame withe a home blaster approx a month ago. It is not as perfect as a commercially blasted frame , but alot better than wire brushing it, there is still a little rust (mostly surface). So I plan to use the degrease, the rust blast, and rust seal. After I degrease and rinse off with water, can I use a propane torch to help dry it off between steps and then again after rinsing off the rust blast? Just to be certain there is no moisture present. I ask because the temperature here is cool, but I will have my shop heated while doing the coating process

  15. Do you offer a high temp coating in clear?

  16. Is there a specific masking tape I should use to mask off areas under the frame where I dont want rust seal or blacktop to penetrate with brush on method? I was planning on using the blue 3m masking tape but want to make sure this is strong enough and the rust seal or black top wont eat through it. Also, once I apply the Rust seal, if I cant apply the Black top immediately following can I do it at a later date? (like a week later). Also, how long between coats with Rust seal do I need to wait?

  17. If I brush on the Blacktop satin black on my frame and axles will I need to thin out the mix, or could I go straight out of the can? I have been a little bummed about reading a couple reviews on Summit Racing where I ordered the product today that two people said the paint looked blotchy and uneven after applying with a brush. They mentioned the Rust Seal satin black looked much better. Why would this happen? I do not want to go through all this work an have a blotchy looking frame. Please advise what I need to do in order to make this project turn out with great results. I also did not order any thinner, can I use any paint thinner brand if I need to thin out the B…

What products would you recommend for copper water pipes (hot and cold), natural gas iron pipes, and cast iron water heaters? Is there a coating that won't interfere with the heat coming from the radiator? I want paint and coat the pipes in my home.

  19. I am a little confused about what is necessary to coat a frame. I am planning on using the kbs clean, rust blast and then the Rust Seal. Is the Rust Seal enough or do I need to follow it up with the blacktop? Also, what is used to get the product inside the frame rails where it is boxed in? I am planning on brushing on the product to a frame that has the body on the frame. I am also going to be coating the underside of the body, do I need to use a secondary product (ie: blacktop) on this as well? another question, will the kbs clean or rust blast damage rubber hoses, brake lines, etc under the vehicle?

  20. I am getting ready to start a frame and axle project, I am planning on using KBS Clean and Rust Blast over some concrete on the side of my house. Will this stain the concrete using the Rust Blast and washing off on the concrete?

  21. If i were to sandblast the area before i use Rustseal would i still need to use the RustBlast and KBS Klean on the sandblasted area before i put on rustseal?

Is this product suitable for metal that will be in close proximity to the heat of light bulb? I'm looking for a product to use on a light fixture I am making out of a vintage wire decorative piece. Would being subject to any heat over time create a more toxic environment? Is this product flammable under those conditions?

  26. Which product do you recommend for a gooseneck trailer and will it hold up fade and hold up in constant sun exposure?

I want to coat the underside, hat channels, and insides of fenders to protect from rust caused mostly by winter road salt. It looks like cavity wax would be the easiest way, but I'm wondering if that is enough for a harsh environment. Is it worth the extra time and effort to use rustseal or one of your undercoating products?

I'm painting my engine compartment and have got most of the old 40 year old undercoating off, but their are still some spots that I missed, how well will your paint stick to undercoating?

  30. Started by Ministeve,

Hi there, I have been very interested in your products and have just started a project car and looking in to my options for the prep/paint process. As spraying/painting a car can cost several thousand, I was excited to know I could just paint these products on and actually use it as the final paint. I read that the Rust Sealer is however not UV resistant enough to prevent the colour from changing with general exposure to the sun for cars. From what I can see, the option is to apply the Maxx top coat as the Clear Coats are not fade Resistant enough. Problem is, the Maxx top coats need to be sprayed on. So that leaves me with the BlackTop product, is that right? I was h…

  37. Started by Erock,

Hello, So I've used the KBS system on many motorcycle tanks with great success.... Now I have a Honda CBX tank that the PO had used RedKote over the rust.... Well you guessed it....the rust created a very tiny pin hole in the tank and the fuel fumes pushed out the paint into a 1cm bubble.... My question is: Will the KBS stripper remove the RedKote product..? Thanks, Erock

  38. I need a coating to use on the inside of engine cases and transmission cases on vintage motorcycles. In the past, manufacturers used red lead paint -- obviously not an option today! Rebuilders for the past 40 years have used Glyptal enamel, or, more recently, Loctite 290. Is KBS RustSeal a viable alternative for this application? Thanks.

  39. Started by egbabino,

I see in one of your posts the gray color rust seal is the most uv resistant. I understand that the color may fade but will the strength of the product be compromised?

  40. Started by redman,

Hi, I have a 2001 Dodge Ram, and the paint is flaking off. I have found out that it is an adhesion issue between the primer and the paint that the factory used. I plan on stripping the truck to bare metal, and applying a complete finish to the truck. I would like a very sturdy finish, but I do not want to go the bed liner route. Here is my questions. 1. I plan on using the paint strip and then the three part rust seal kit. Is there anything I need to do between stripping and using the rust seal 3 step kit? 2. I plan on using the KBS MAXX as my top coat. Is there anything I need to do between the rust seal, and the MAXX? 3. Is the Maxx a UV stable coating? Do I need …

  41. I am building wench frame to put on truck. will I have to prime frame before I paint coating on frame? it will be welded together and brushed cleaned and all rust will be brushed cleaned and chemically removed. will I need a kit or just use the paint?

  42. Started by elkyman,

We are starting the frame off restoration of a 79 El Camino. The car has only mild surface rust on the frame and even less on the body. Road salt is a big concern in the winter, so we want to treat the frame, the underside of the body, and the firewall to make sure rust doesn't become a problem in the future. I know the firewall will need a top coat to stop UV damage, but we don't plan to use a top coat on the frame. The All in one chassis kit looks like the right product to buy, but I think we will need more RustSeal to handle the underside of the body. How much more would we need?

  43. I would like to refinish a dual jet ski trailer and do not know how many of the system sampler kits would be needed. do you have guidance?

  44. Started by Zeb,

I bought the 3 step sample kit in 2012 to do the bottom edges of the doors on my crew cab truck. The insides of the bottom edges are starting to rust. I ordered the it with the black top coat. Question one is, is this kit still good or does it have a shelf life? I have never opened it and it has been in the basement, so it has never froze. Question two is, if the sample kit is still good, can I order just a sample size can of the off white to use with my sample kit I already have instead of using the black I bought a couple years ago?

  45. Started by jgordon12364,

I have a 2002 Toyota Tacoma and the cover on the rear axle has pin hole leaks. Unfortunately the rear pumpkin cover is welded and can't be replaced so I was wondering if the tank restoration kit would seal the cover? I am not sure if it can hold up against the 80-90 gear oil. The axle housing is almost a thousand dollars to replace so was hoping that this kit might work. Any suggestions? Thanks Jim.

  46. Started by 808Yota,

Hello All, I have a 1985 Toyota Pickup and am currently in the process of treating rust spots on the cab and in the bed of the truck. There are spots on the bed that have rust, a few spots with rust holes and areas that are painted without any rust at all. My goal was to not only treat the spots that have rust but also coat the entire bed and underside of the bed in the Rust Seal so that I would not have to worry about rust in the future. I was wondering what the proper procedure would be if I wanted to coat the whole bed with the Rust Seal? Would sanding the painted surfaces with 300 grit sand paper before applying the Klean and Rust Blast be sufficient prep work…

  47. How long after applying Diamond Clear would it be recommended to apply vinyl graphics?

  48. Hit my freshly sandblasted metal with KBS Klean, then RustBlast. Stupidly moved the stuff into the sun without wearing gloves (after the Rust Blast was washed off). To make sure the RustSeal adheres well, can I use Klean again on the RustBlast-ed parts, wash it off and let dry, then paint on the RustSeal? Thanks. -Chris

  49. Started by Bilito,

Is it possible to apply a second coat of sealer to my fuel tank. It is a big, 35 gallon cylindrical marine galvanized tank and I bought the 25 gal kit plus an extra pint can of sealer for the job. just applied the sealer yesterday and was wondering it it was possible or advisable to apply a second coat just to be on the safe side. The tank will be reinstalled below deck on my boat and I had to remove the exhaust manifold to get it out. Just want to be sure it will never have another pin hole leak because of rust and the gas we have to use nowadays

  50. Started by bfg,

I just received a quart of Blacktop as well as various other KBS products earlier this week. I accidentally knocked the can of Blacktop over and discovered the bottom was buldgeing out as if it were pressurized. I checked the cans of rust seal and the gas tank restoration kit but those seem fine. Is this something I should be concerned about? The cans have not been opened and I have not used any of the products yet.
