  1. Started by Downforceus,

Greetings, Just finished my canoe with 1 coat of KBS and I know I did a couple things wrong that I can identify. First, my coat was too thick, I used the wrong brush and I went back and tried to work out the runs. Not gonna get into how this stuff ate right thought the red party cup I was working out of. I want to identify what is in this pic. I’m thinking way too much humidity….

  2. when using KBS what are the time and temps setting for cleaning nuts and bolts?

  3. Today, I started prepping all of the front end parts I have removed from my project in order to do the 3 step system with Rust Seal. After one pass with KBS Klean in order to just remove all of the built up grime and dirt, I noticed many parts have a black coating on them that is partially coming off already. I'm unsure if it's original paint or an undercoating of some kind. See photos for an example of what the coil mount and radius arm looks like after a pass of KBS Klean, scraping and using a wire wheel to clean all of the grime and loose rust and black coating off. Do you think the leftover black coating will be a problem if I remove all of the loose stuff…

Am looking for the toughest clear protector to put on my tools. Humidity causes rust on them fairly quickly. Surfaces will be rust free and in some cases slightly mirror-like. Please let me know what you suggest.

Some of the other strong epoxies I've used have particles of ferromagnetic steel to help strengthen them structurally. I need a high end non-ferromagnetic epoxy though. Does NuMetal have ferromagnetic steel particles?

  11. building a new wood 8x12 utility shed to store my lawn & yard tools. will be a basic 2x4 stick structure, t111 walls, 2x4 floor with tongue & groove plywood floor. I want to coat the floor and lower portion of the walls (maybe 6-12 inches up the walls) to protect it from moisture, fuel, oil, etc... as this shed will house my riding lawn mower, push mower, trimmer, etc. Main goal is to help protect the floor if i can and make it last. I was looking at using the Bed Liner, as it seems one gallon should get me close to 2 coats. also the bedliner will give some traction/ texture to the floor as well ? or do you recommend another product for this purpose ? …

  13. Started by ISC,

My first experience was 6 months ago attempting to spray inside a sub frame. It took over 6 hours before I finally was able to cover all 4 walls with the minimum spray from the wand. I had to cut the 48" wand down to 24" to get any of the very thin rust seal out the spray part. Today another subframe and the sprayer worked perfectly and I left all kinds of puddle under the drain holes. BUT the 2nd coat went back to a worthless wand. More air was blowing into the rust seal in the metal can than was coming out the end of the wand. What is wrong and have others had the same issues or not? But best of all HOW do you fix it? thanks in adva…

  15. Started by Jward,

I have a metal covered area at the back of my house. Likely steel. Has been painted over the years (I don’t know what product was used). There is some rust but not a lot. It is sloped so not a lot of standing water. It does get a lot of sun. I have used rust seal on an indoor project before. I am wondering what products might work for this small roof?

About to seal the tank for my 2006 GSXR750 but the shape of the tank does not have any opening at low spots so I can’t drain the excess by just having it pour out. For the cleaner and acid I was able to siphon out whatever I couldn’t dump out but the sealer is too thick for a siphon. Any suggestions?

I plan to coat the floorpan of my car with KBS BedLiner as an added protection and/or to help prevent road noise. When reading the provided instructions, I see that there's a 8-10 hour cure time recommended before getting into the truck bed to make touch ups. I feel that my use case will be slightly different since I won't have to stand on the coating to recoat. Can you advise what the recommended time is between coats if I don't have to stand on the surface to reacoat (like the underside of the car)? Is there a way to check the coating to ensure it's ready for another coat? Thanks in advance!

  18. Started by transam7801,

I want to use the Bed Liner material over RustSeal on my undercarriage. After reading the instructions, it looks as if I can add the Bed Liner over fully cured RustSeal. I want to be sure I understand what is meant by "fully cured" in this context. Does that mean I'll be able to coat the RustSeal with Bedliner after the approximate 3 hour window passes and the Rust Seal no longer leaves fingerprints? Or do I have to wait the full 24 hours for RustSeal to cure before scuffing and coating with KBS Bed Liner?

  19. I'm painting the engine and part of the frame on my motorhome. I used motor coater on the engine and rust seal on the frame. The temps were in the 70s when I put the first coat on. I'm in Michigan, it's November. The forecast is showing highs in the mid 40s for as far as I can see. I need to put a 2nd coat on so I can get everything back together before winter. What will happen if I put the 2nd coat on with temps in the mid 40s?

Hi, I'd like to paint the inside box of my fireplace with a high heat paint in a matt sand/beige color. Is it possible to have a custom paint color made. Or can I add tint to your white matt paint to customize the color myself. If so, what type of tint would I use. Thanks for the help.

  21. Started by Mushu,

There are two different specifications for air guns, PSI and airflow. I need to know the minimum requirements to use your KBS air gun. I am trying to use the cavity coater but the gun will not spray the stuff out at all. I have a little compressor that will go up to 120PSI but it may not flow enough air, thus the question above.

  24. Started by Den,

On a vintage car with rear cycle mudguards I have just cleaned to bare metal as much as possible for a rough rust pitted surface with welded in patches. I then gave 2 coats of Bilt Hamber Hydrate 80 rust converter to convert any rust in pitted area. Then cleaned over with KBS clean (wipe over with sponge as not possible to wash with running water) followed by 2 coats RustSeal. As that area is not covered by mudguards (fenders) and the wheels are spoked wire wheels the area will be exposed to sun. I intend to brush on an anti-stone chip paint on top of the RustSeal to UV proof and act as extra protection. What is maximum time after RustSeal has cured that I can leave b…

Can I use this on my Fiberglass pool. I drained the pool down to have some work done on it and when the surface dried it was all faded out. Can I use this to bring back the shine and protect the finish from the chlorine and salt water pool? If so would I need to prep the surface first and how. Do you thing it would need 1 or two coats? Do you think it would be too slippery to walk up the steps or bottom surface?

  26. I just bought the complete all in one chassis coating system and plan to use the system to protect my rocker panels. I have surface rust starting under the undercoating in places. I plan to try to remove as much as the undercoating before applying the system. My question is, is it ok to scuff up the undercoating that properly adhered and apply over rather than trying to remove every bit?

Hello, I have sealed a 5-gallon snowmobile tank, but I still have a few leaks presumably from the holes being too large for the tank sealer to work. Other than these leaks, the tank seal appears to be well bonded and otherwise OK. I have subsequently sealed those leaks with the KBS 2-part epoxy. My question is whether I can apply a second coat of tank seal, and if so, what surface prep is recommended. As the tank has seen nothing but water, can I simply apply a 2nd coat? Thanks

Will the tank sealer hold up to the heat of powder coating?

  32. I completed the cleaning portion of sealing a gas tank. I sealed the cap with food type plastic wrap but the process pressurized the tank and bubbles came out around the cap. See pictures. There was also a very noticeable pressure release when I opened the cap with lots of suds. I'm trying to save the paint but some got under the protective plastic wrap. Contact was not that long so paint still looks OK. This is an aluminium tank and also got warm to the touch during the process. The tank is only one gallon. Will the rust blast have a similar pressuring effect? Since this is such a small tank, would it be a good idea to use less that the full container…

  33. I have the 3 part sealing kit but I'm concerned about damaging paint on the outside of the tank. Will the cleaner and rust remover damage paint? Is there anyway to protect paint from spilling of the sealer? (in case of operator error) Would wrapping the tank in plastic food wrap help? Are the any recommended precautions to avoid an oops? Thanks

Using Diamond clear coat on fiberglass boat. The old gel coat or clear coat is chalky in a lot of places. I am planning on sanding with 600 to 800 grit wet sanding. my big question is do I need to get all the old chalky finish off before applying Diamond clear coat

  37. Hello and hope all is well in these crazy times. I have a current 4cyl project that I'm having the block and head vapor blasted before deep cleaning and assembly. Both block and head will be prepped with 80grit abrasive balls, stepping up to about a 220 grit. Question 1: will the XTC clear gloss be sufficient to adhere to said motor as is without any primer/base? Question 2: I have a set of aluminum wheels to be sand blasted and plan to just spray the clear over them after a deep clean of course. Has anyone done either of these procedures with positive or negative results? Thank you in advance. Pictures would be greatl…

I purchased a new DeeZee STEEL 40 gal transfer tank to install in my PU bed. I want to seal the tank first. As the inside is " new and clean ", as not used and rusted, should I " blast " it first - to get the etching aspect onto the interior surface, then rinse, dry, and install the sealer, or just rinse, dry and seal coat?

  39. Hello, I have an old motorcycle I've been fixing up, the bike had moderate surface rust in the tank so I used the first two steps of the KBS fuel tank sealer kit. However I ended up traveling out of town for work that took longer than expected so now its been 14 days since I used "Rust Blast" on the tank (10 Days max recommended). When I used the product I followed both steps carefully and thought I got great results, no more rust. Kept the tank in a ventilated area on a boot dryer while I was away, but unfortunately when I got home the inside of the tank looked like this. Should I repeat the first two steps? Or is there an easier option? Thanks for reading

I have a VW floor pan that I am going to have sandblasted. After blasting, it has a few places that will require minor weld repairs. What do you recommend for a weld through - after blasting treatment to prevent flash rusting while the weld repairs are made (guessing two weeks to a month)? Then, after repairs are made, which products do you recommend progressing through to end up with a gloss or chassis black floor pan?

  41. Started by Jminzler79,

Just curious as ive looked through the forums, and not sure if I missed a post or not but I haven't seen anything about the possibility of coating wheels... what could you use and how would you protect it from the sun fading it if this is possible...

  42. I have a 20 year old Hilux diesel ute. There are two main areas of rust as well as a few specs in the otherwise shiny tank. The rust found its way into the fuel filters, causing reliability problems. The tank was cleaned out and the filters replaced, but as the rust still flakes off, if the fuel gets very low, the filters suck it up and the problem resurfaces. Here is a photo of the inside of the tank, showing the two main areas. Will the sealer system cover this much rust, or is it only for small patches?

Would it be effective to apply Rust Seal over Rustoleum Rust Reformer, or any rust reformer for that matter? I have rust at the bottoms of my car door seams and would like to remove the rust with rust reformer and then apply rust seaI and then KBS Clear Diamond Finish. I don’t have a garage to work in so the complete KBS system would be difficult to implement.

Hi, What is the window for topcoating RustSeal before I have to "scuff" the RustSeal? I know I can topcoat after the RustSeal doesn't leave a fingerprint. I know I have to scuff after 24 hours. Does this mean I can recoat without scuffing anytime between initial cure and 24 hours? Thanks for your help, Jim

I am building a 71 bronco. it was so rusty that I bought a reproduction steel tub. when I bought it I spent some time to wire wheel the underside and epoxy prime it. I was not sure what I wanted to do with it. I am now considering using your rust seal on it. my questions are 1. do I need to scuff or sand off the primer? 2. do I need to seam seal before applying the rust seal? 3. since this is new metal with no rust, do I need to do the cleaner or rust convertor? do I need to top coat it since it is going to be under the vehicle? thanks
