Masking off frame for Rust Seal/Time between coats

Featured Replies

Is there a specific masking tape I should use to mask off areas under the frame where I dont want rust seal or blacktop to penetrate with brush on method?  I was planning on using the blue 3m masking tape but want to make sure this is strong enough and the rust seal or black top wont eat through it.  Also, once I apply the Rust seal, if I cant apply the Black top immediately following can I do it at a later date? (like a week later).

Also, how long between coats with Rust seal do I need to wait?

There are three effective ways to topcoat RustSeal effectively so that the coatings bond & fuse together.

1) Apply your top coat once the second or final coat of RustSeal is dry-to-the-touch and does not leave a fingerprint (usually 3-10 hours depending on temperature and humidity).

2) Let the second or final coat of RustSeal fully cure (at least 24 hours), scuff the RustSeal with 300 grit, then apply your top coat.

3) Let the second or final coat of RustSeal fully cure (at least 24 hours), dust the RustSeal with Fusion Self-Etching Primer, let the Fusion cure for 30 minutes, then apply your top coat.

You can feel free to choose the method that will work for you.

You can use the blue masking tape and it would be best to removed the tape within an hour of your final coat of RustSeal or BlackTop.
