July 29, 20205 yr comment_5166 Hi, What is the window for topcoating RustSeal before I have to "scuff" the RustSeal? I know I can topcoat after the RustSeal doesn't leave a fingerprint. I know I have to scuff after 24 hours. Does this mean I can recoat without scuffing anytime between initial cure and 24 hours? Thanks for your help, Jim Link to comment https://success.kbs-coatings.com/topic/2872-rustseal-topcoating-window/ Share on other sites Share on X Share on Facebook {lang="reddit_text" Share via email Share on Pinterest
 July 29, 20205 yr comment_5167 The key for re-coating or top coating RustSeal is feel. Because RustSeal is sensitive to temperature, humidity and air flow changes, it is best practice to go by feel versus a time frame. To re-coat or top coat RustSeal, you want your finger to drag along the surface but not pull any paint off onto your gloved finger. If you gloved finger gets paint on it, then it is too soon. If your gloved finger slides right along the surface (does not drag), then you have waited too long and should wait a full 24 hours and lightly scuff the surface with 300 grit or apply a dust coat of Fusion Self-Etch Primer. Please be sure to carefully review the Complete RustSeal Directions before you start your project. Let us know if this helps and if you have any additional questions.
