egbabino Posted May 30, 2015 Report Posted May 30, 2015 Can oil based paint with harder like rustoleum, be top coated over rust seal and what would the application instructions Be? I want a top coat I can roll or brush on. Quote
KBS Coatings Posted May 30, 2015 Report Posted May 30, 2015 Yes, you can top coat RustSeal with an oil based paint. There are three effective ways to topcoat RustSeal effectively so that the coatings bond & fuse together. Apply your top coat once the second or final coat of RustSeal is dry-to-the-touch and does not leave a fingerprint (usually 3-10 hours depending on temperature and humidity). Let the second or final coat of RustSeal fully cure (at least 24 hours), scuff the RustSeal with 300 grit, then apply your top coat. Let the second or final coat of RustSeal fully cure (at least 24 hours), dust the RustSeal with Fusion Self-Etching Primer, let the Fusion cure for 30 minutes, then apply your top coat. You can feel free to choose the method that will work for you. Please let us know if that helps and if you have any additional questions. Quote
Rvelazquez45 Posted September 13, 2020 Report Posted September 13, 2020 Would it be effective to apply Rust Seal over Rustoleum Rust Reformer, or any rust reformer for that matter? I don’t have a garage to work in so the completed KBS system would be difficult to implement. Quote
KBS Coatings Posted September 16, 2020 Report Posted September 16, 2020 Yes, you can apply RustSeal over any cured coating like Rust Reformer that has been lightly scuff with 300 grit and cleaned with KBS Klean. Please let us know if that helps and if you have any additional questions. Quote
