Products for coating metal roof

Featured Replies

I have a metal covered area at the back of my house.  Likely steel.  Has been painted over the years (I don’t know what product was used).  There is some rust but not a lot.  It is sloped so not a lot of standing water.  It does get a lot of sun.  I have used rust seal on an indoor project before.  I am wondering what products might work for this small roof?

White, light gray, potentially a light tan.  It’s currently a white that leans a bit gray.  Wouldn’t mind going a bit darker.

Can I use a white or gray rust seal alone for this?  Should I use that as a first coat and then top coat with something else?  Or is there another product that could be used alone?

For a metal roof where long term rust protection is the key and goal, after prepping the surface, prime with RustSeal. Thin coats. At least two coats.

Then coat with KBS MAXX which is UV stable, exterior grade and durable, and will withstand the elements that come with being a roof. Typically two coats is what is needed.

Please review the RustSeal TDS and the KBS MAXX TDS and let us know of additional questions you have.
