  1. Gold Standard Tank Sealer is a superior, one part, ready-to-use fuel tank sealer that is specifically formulated to stop rust and corrosion. When used in combination with KBS Klean and RustBlast, Tank Sealer will form a super-tough, fuel and alcohol impervious coating, while simultaneously sealing small pinholes and weld seams.

Using the three step kit for the second time. Hopefully as successful as the first. Question is how long should it cure before adding fuel. Ethanol free gas.

  2. Started by billa,

I have one of your tank sealer kits, can you tell me if this product has any kind of shelf life to it ??

  3. I have a plastic tank that weeps fuel, it seems as if fuel evaporates out of the tank slowly over time. Can I use your products to seal up the tank and stop the fuel from evaporating?

I have a badly rusted gas tank and am only able to work on it on weekends. Is there any harm to soak the gas tank with KBS Klean for a week? Thanks

  5. I bought an old bike with aluminium tank that had sat for a long time. It had some liquid stinky gas in it and was oozing molasses looking stuff by the petcock and a couple of pin holes. I soaked in fresh gas for a couple of weeks and then soaked with simple green water for a short time (also shaking with screws & bolts inside). The inside still does not look that clean. See pictures. Further back is what looks like a thin layer of the molasses looking varnish. Will the standard KBS tank sealer kit be adequate for cleaning and sealing a tank like this? If not, what other steps should I take? I'm not planning on repainting the tank so any cleaning solvents that…

Hello, I just spent the better part of the day using your strip to remove a failing Kreem liner in my tank. After several applications and rinses, I was able to get the majority of it out but some still remains. It also doesn't help that the tank is oddly shaped and makes it difficult getting every nook and cranny. My question is: does the Kreem have to be completely removed or just the majority of it? Thanks much for any help. -Randy

Which of your coatings should I use to seal the inside of an Aluminum Tank I use as my 100% Methanol Fuel Reservoir on my Injection System? Also, are there any special instructions or suggestions on prep and coating maintenance/reapplication beyond those already provided on your site/products? Thanks in Advance

  8. Howdy! I just completed the KBS Klean step from the three-part tank sealing kit I ordered for my boats aluminum fuel tank. Its amazing how good it looks already! before I commit to the coating process by going forward with the Acid Etch, I wanted to share my concern about the coating clogging up the pick-up tube, primarily where there is minimal clearance between the tube and the tank bottom... what recommendations do you have to prevent this from being a problem? Best I can tell, the pick-up tube is not readily removable.

I have a small honda cb175 motorcycle tank that needs this clean/seal work done on it. The tank is in nice shape with a few pinholes. I would be happy to pay for a mail in service to have someone preform the work and pay to ship it back. Thanks

I just re-lined a gas tank for a motorcycle with a KBS cycle tank sealer kit. Followed the instructions exactly. Let it sit three days after ceiling. Filled it with gas and seem to hold for a day but then started leaking through the seam again. Can I apply another coat of the sealer on top of the existing code to just make it thicker?

  11. Where can I get the tape for sealing when preparing to seal a motorcycle tank?

  12. Started by timj,

hi kbs, love your gas tank sealer kits, they do an awesome job. just curious as to what life expectancy could be assumed for a tank that was well prepared and sealed correctly? would the sealant deteriorate if left with gas standing for long periods? thanks.

I have a car with 15+ gallon capacity split into two tanks (E21 BMW). Would you recommend using two of the large cycle tank kits or the auto kit and just use 1/2 in each tank? Would saran wrap or aluminum foil attached by rubber bands survive the cleaning portion of the process, or is something more effective needed? Does the cleaning process affect rubber?

  14. Started by Guest,

It seems like your Tank Sealer works very well on old tank. Can I use the Tank Sealer on a new tank?

  15. Started by Guest,

I have a sealer in my fiber glass tank that I want to remove. Will your KBS Strip work for this? Will it mess up my fiber glass tank?

  16. Started by Guest,

I have a motorcycle tank with a small amount of rust in it, no leaks, just some small spots of rust. I have used your product once before and was very pleased with the way it works. Your kit says it's good for up to a five gallon tank. I have a 7.5 gallon tank on my current bike. What kit, or additional components would I need to do a 7.5 gallon tank?

  17. Can your gas tank sealer kits be used over a previously coated gas tank?

  18. Started by wlong,

I bought a kit for my old Jaguar a couple of years ago and so far it's holding up. Now I have a tractor 10 gal tank that is making rust and I need to find out what product I need for it.

  19. Started by bde,

can I purchase the sealer I like to put in 60 gal tank on tractor I plan to cut top out to repair the stand tube and while I am in there put sealer on just in case what I doing could case rust later could you give me price

  20. Is it ok for me to use the tank coating kit on a new tank? Thank you!

  21. Started by GaryM,

I have a larger hole, about 3/8th of an inch in diameter. The gas tank is still on the car, and I'm hoping you have a product that I can use to seal it? I sure hope so. Please let me know as soon as practical, as I need the car - it's my only one.

  22. We are forced to use an ethanol/ gasoline blend (E-10) in California. My fishing boat has fiberglass tanks. While I see that you do not recommend your product for this application I am writing to ask if their is any history of success or another product you make that would be suitable for sealing fiberglass fuel tanks against ethanol blends of gasoline?

  23. Started by Vance,

I want to protect the weld seams in my fuel tank from rust. Can the rust sealer be used internally on a tank? If not, can the tank sealer be painted on the seals inside the tank instead of lining the entire tank? A family member keeps discouraging me from DIY fuel sealers as he had a friend that used one and came apart clogging the fuel system. Both these guys are mechanical engineers that work in Aerospace... so it's hard to discount their advice. What advice can you give for my application and perhaps this family member?

I have a 40-gal tank that needs to have the interior coating stripped, prep'd, and coated. Do you have a kit that contains the stripper to remove the factory coating? Do you have a video of the process? This is a 2001 ford 7.3L diesel F-450 truck.

  25. I am struggling removing everything from a failed liner. Is it necessary to get every last bit of the old sealer out prior to doing another, or will the new liner stick to areas that have a strong coating of liner already? Anyone have any suggestions?

  26. Recently, I purchased the KBS Cycle Sealing kit. I have applied KBS Klean and RustBlast as directed to a rusty motorcycle gas tank. The products removed approximately 85% of the deposits from the metal. However, two 2-3" strips of rust still remain in the bottom of the tank after repeated applications. Would applying the seal now allow it to properly adhere over these rusty areas, or should these significantly rusted areas be treated further before the sealant is applied?

I have a 200 gallon metal tank. How much of your products do I need? Can you please provide instructions?

  28. I coated a bike tank last year and this year I am sending the tank out for powder coating. My question is how will the tank sealer hold up. The tech told me the tank will be heated to 400 degrees. I'm concerned that I will have to remove the lining job I did last year.

  29. I have an 80 gallon Ruud brand electric water heater tank that I would like to repurpose and coat with KBS Tank Sealer. The interior of the tank is in good condition and has a Ruudglas (porcelain enamel) lining to inhibit water based corrosion. Would using Aqua Klean and Rust Blast properly prepare the surface for the tank sealer? Will the Gold Standard tank sealer adhere to the enamel tank lining? Is there another product that would adhere to the enamel properly to provide protection against petroleum products? I'm looking for anything that will provide me a way forward in repurposing the tank to hold gasoline, diesel or oil. R/S Scott

  30. I am in the middle of sealing a tank from a 2000 Ford E350. I used the KBS Clean, and then the Rust Blast. After treating the tank for 40 minutes with the Rust Blast, I drained it and washed it out. While draining, I noticed a lot of small, gummy grey flakes coming out of the tank. After I finished washing it and draining it, I shone a flashlight in the tank and realized that the OEM coating is flaking away. About 1/2 the tank is bare metal, and the other 1/2 still has coating. Is it ok to use the Gold Seal once it has dried, or ??? I also have a plastic baffle/sump in the center of the tank that can't be removed. Can I just coat over it?

  31. Started by MarkDaihatsu,

So I followed the kit to a T. I couldn't pour out the sealer due to the filler being restricted so I used the fuel drain plug which was okay. Initially I rotated it all around, let it drain. Then I rotated the tank several times with about 4 or 5 intervals of 10 minutes inbetween. With the Sender and Float units removed (I made mock up plates out of sheet metal), the next morning I had found that the sealer had pooled, inside the baffle, only slight maybe 0.5-1cm and a bit more on the base of the fuel tank also (despite me rotating the tank several times during the curing process - like it said on the instructions). I have read elsewhere that this can cause bubbling a…

I have a gas tank from a 1998 mustang that was sitting with ethanol enhanced gasoline. It destroyed the pump, so I bought a pump, but when I got ready to put it in, I noticed that the factory coating in the tank had turned to a gummy substance. How do I strip that gummy substance out? The tank is 17 gallons.

I have diesel tank in boat that just began leakage. It's either seal or replace. I can't "roll" tank. We are cutting inspection ports for access between baffles. Tank is 500 gallons. What process (spraying, washing, drying coatings) to use?

  35. Started by KBS Coatings,

We were asked this question recently: I have two tanks that need sealing, one has mild rust and dirt but the other is in bad condition. Both are 3 gallon Honda 450 tanks. Would one large kit be able to do both tanks?

  36. Started by javis,

What are the ideal conditions for the best/fastest curing, such as temperature, humidity, etc.? I just sealed a 20gal car tank and I live in Louisiana where its 90+ degrees everyday and high humidity. Should I keep it in the shade or in the sunlight?

  37. Hi there, I have just emptied the gas tank of Gold Seal Gas Tank Sealer and was surprised to see the silver liquid began foaming and bubbling eventually overflowing the can. I bought the system a year ago and have just got around to using it. I did the preparation 4 days ago and left the tank to dry for 3 days. A little fluid came out of the tank when I was checking it before applying the last stage and so I heated the tank internally by using a hot air blower as shown on the video. The tank did become quite hot and I rotated it to ensure all of the water was evaporated. The tank was left for an hour to cool down but it was a warm day here in Florida. Temperature when I…

My diesel tank has a bunch of complicated vent apparatus at the top (inside) that I don't want to gum up with sealant. Is it possible to only seal the bottom half? Or, will the edges have adhesion issues and eventually peel off? If acceptable to do this, which kit should I purchase to seal half of an 18 gallon tank? Ideally, I don't want a bunch left over to pour back out since this is the messiest part of the job - I can coat 1/2 - 3/4 of the tank without interfering with the vent. Also, does anything need to be done to the cleaned/etched part of the tank that wasn't sealed to prevent rusting?

I'm cleaning and sealing the fuel tank on my Triumph TR8. I did the cleaning, then Rust Blast according to the instructions, but I started getting flash rust immediatly after rinsing after the Rust Blast. Is it OK to put the sealer over the flash rust? I thought the Rust Blast was supposed to leave a phosphate coating to inhibit rust.

I have a 1975 Galaxy which has a built in fiberglass tank which I cannot remove from the boat. Can I paint on KBS with the same results?

  41. Started by donwogs,

I have a 60 gallon custom aluminum diesel tank which was made for me in 2000. It has begun to leak in an area which can't be accessed or seen from the outside. There are no signs of external corrosion, so I am assuming a weld issue. If I can locate the leak through the tank's top clean out covers, and it seems to be repairable by coating, can I apply your system by brush or spray without removing the tank?

I bought a engine kit for a motorbike and the instructions recommend sealing the fuel tank with a sealant. Because this is a new tank is it necessary to go thru all the cleaning, etching and then sealing, or can I go straight to sealing the tank?

  43. Started by yellowjacketoffroader,

I have been battling removing a failed tank sealer on a 50 gal tank. I used 2 of your 3 step kits as tank was 2x larger than max tank size. got great adhesion on sides of tank but did not allow enough time to drain completely. after finding the puddling on the bottom of the tank I bought 2 gal of methylene chloride stripper and went to work. a week later still fighting getting it out. inside tank is hard, and in some places impossible to scrape after stripper is applied. what do i need to do to completely remove old coating, or can i just get most out and reseal it? I already have 2 more 3 step kits waiting but i don't want to use them if they will fail again.

Can I use your Gold Standard Tank Sealing Kits on my tractors diesel tank?

  45. Started by cb26la,

Hi, I recently used your auto tank 3 part sealer kit and followed the instructions very closely. However it is always humid here so maybe that is the reason I have 4 small very hard bubbles on the bottom. My question is will that cause any problems down the line because I really don't have time to wait to reseal the tank. There is also a small flat cylinder type device which the metal tubing goes to, I'm guessing it's the fuel return but I'm not a mechanic. My question for that is could the sealer have damaged it? I cannot feel any openings on it so all I did was sand the rust off it, cleaned it with the first 2 parts of the kit. Then covered it with duct tape …

I've used the tank sealing process on snowmobile tanks mostly with success. However, I do get some tanks that have more pin holes than others which have not completely sealed. I've seen other sealed tanks with liners that look thick and heavy. Does KBS offer a thicker tank sealer than the standard liquid offered? These tanks are rectangle and easy to rotate and drain, so I am not worried about puddling.

Hi: just got the motorcycle tank kit and followed the directions to the letter. My question is: when I look into the tank I see 2 bad rust spots that don't seem to dry. They appear waxy almost. The rest of the interior of the tank looks super, almost galvanized! I should note that I soldered the bad rust holes from the outside of the tank before I proceed with the cleaning. I supose it is possible that the waxy spots I see are residual flux from the soldering process. I dried the interior of the tank wit forced air cool and heated for about 6 hours and I assure you it is dry. How should I proceed with the spots. I'm ready to seal the tank but don't want a coating failure …

I've just completed the Rust Blast surface prep of my bike's tank. The Rust Blast was in the tank for 50 mins, and the tank was rolled every few minutes to allow full coverage. After draining and flushing, I noted that all the 'rust' colored stuff was gone, but there is quite a bit of very hard black looking rust remaining. Will the tank sealer adhere to this stuff, or should I look at giving it another Rust Blast treatment?

Can I use the tank sealer with an aluminium tank and do I just follow the same instructions as for a steel tank? Will the tank sealer react to methanol fuel?
