  1. I have a fuel tank from a 1973 Honda motorcycle which has quite a bit of rust. I treated it with paint stripper to get remnants of old tank liner out, then rinsed with paint stripper wash. Then I applied Step 1, then rinsed with water and let dry. Then I applied RustBlast, moving it around the tank for a full 3 hours. It seems to have had no effect (see attached photos of the tank after treatment). What am I doing wrong? Or, is that tank liner I'm looking at and not rust? (It's my first time doing this) Thanks in advance for any clues!

I have some rock sliders (heavy duty running boards) on my jeep and there is rust where the paint has come off. After I clean them with KBS Klean and treat them with Rust Blast can I just spray them with 2 or 3 coats of Bed Renu and be done with them?

  3. Started by Olysan,

Hi, I’m working on a Jeep frame. I have sandblasted most of it and I used rust blast on some hard to get areas. I also sprayed most of the main rail areas with Rustblast to knock done the surfaces rust. Unfortunately I got distracted and let the rust blast dry without rinsing. Can I coat with rust seal as is? Or do I need to go back and sand blast again? Or would it be possible to rewet with rust blast and then rinse? What are my options?

I'm considering using the Trunk and Floorpan kit to address some rust I've found in the floorboard of my car. I've already gone through and scuffed the paint and/or removed as much loose paint and rust as possible. My question is about rinsing. So I'm supposed to keep the surface wet with the Rust Blast for a specified amount of time. My question is what options are available for rinsing? The majority of the interior is still in the car, and as such I'd like to not spray a water hose inside the car. Can I use a rag and a bucket to wipe down the surfaces after the soak time? Would it require a two rag system? (One wet rag to dilute and one dry one to remo…

  5. Going through with sealing a motorcycle tank. Spent two and a half days starting with the stripper to remove an old patch job and meticulously cleaning and using the rust blast. I just got done the rust blast, and immediately force dried it. (Blew out as much as possible with compressed air and then a heat gun on low fan for an hour or more)There is some light surface rust which in the instructions states is normal. Although in one corner where some of the rinse water puddled before it dried left a heavier spot of surface rust. I tried getting the best pic I could, am not sure if this is ok or not. I spent so much time prepping to the directions …

Hey Guys, I am restoring a 77 Datsun 280z gas tank. While it took me many days to clean the tank by removing the previous sealer, old gasoline and all prior rust using Evaporust, I was finally ready to coat the tank over the weekend. As per the instructions, I cleaned it with KBS Klean and then followed that with 2 quarts of Rust Blast. While I was rotating the tank every 5 mins, I could see the prior flash rust disappear. But after rinsing with regular tap water, I could see the entire interior with a rust like sheen. I notice this in roughly 50% of the interior. This is yellow and not the white powdery stuff as noted in your instructions. …

I have a large sawmill that has heavy rusting on it and I have heard of evaporust being used with a recirculating sprinkler system in an enclosed tent. Do you see any problems using a strong mix of rustblast in this way?

  8. Started by DougI,

What is the best way to keep panels wet while I’m working underneath a car? The car is on tall jack stands and I’m on my back. The time isn’t an issue but how do I keep the RustBlast applied without dripping off? Would the Rust Converter spray be a better option?

  9. Curious whether or not you can powder coat A-arms that have been prepped with KBS Kleen and RustBlast. Essentially does all the rust have to be removed in this case?

I understand the recommended way of using body filler (2 coats KBS -> Body Filler-> 300 Grit-> Rust Seal) but sparing all the details of why, there may be a time in my project where Rustblast will come in contact with cured Bondo before it is coated with RustSeal. I am curious as to the effect of Rustblast on the Bondo. Is there any problem with coating RustSeal over Bondo that has been exposed to RustBlast?

  12. hi, i was to excited to start the process of coating my new motorcycle fuel tank and i use the rust blast instead of the degreasser. i mixed it 1/1 with water and had it sitting for a day in the tank and now rust spots have appeared. DUMB me. oh well i just got to fix the issue now. what would be the simplest way to fix everything?

  13. Started by KBS Bob,

I am repairing rust on my tailgate for my 2013 GMC pickup with KBS products. I purchased the 3 part kit ( KBS KLEAN, RUST BLAST, & RUSTSEAL). After completing steps 1 & 2, I have some flash rust on the surface. Is there going to be a problem applying the RUSTSEAL to the surface with this much Flash Rust?

HI, 1.,I wonder if I overworked the paint while brushing as it was going off pretty quick it was not sticky anymore after approx 2 hrs. Gave it 2nd coat, so it is what it is now, just wondering what are the consequences of overworking it? 2.,For next area I need to paint, I wonder how I can remove the toluene residue, as I needed to use thinners to remove some mastic and adhesive. Instructions says toluene residue is a no-no. Thanks!

  15. Hello, I need to paint these foot wells / floor. I have read all the instructions available. Some of the surface is still perfect, was no rust underneath paint. I need to minimize the amount of sandblasting I have to do. I have cleaned everything before grinding / sanding with aqua klean. Sanded / wire wheeled surfaces. Now I am about to sand blast the rusty areas. I was hoping not to put any water on the previously rusted / sand blasted areas. Please see photo attached, please note sanding is not 100% finished I will sand off all remaining paint from low points etc. Questions are really: 1., Can I Aquaklean/ rust blast the shiny steal,…

Cleaning and Rusty gas tank in a 1930 Chevrolet. I have used other KBS Products on my restoration so looking here first for a solution. plan to remove the tank, clean it out with KBS Clean and then use the Rust Blast to clean and remove the rust inside. then rinse with water as always. question is can i then use the tank as is with OUT a coating/liner ?? not really keen on using a liner in a gas tank. my concern is flash rust or rust returning in general ?? not sure if the zinc phosphate coating would be a good protector with the gasoline/ethanol blends. open to options

Hello, In preparation for Motor Coater, I'm torn on using the RustBlast or taking a chance without it as I'll be accomplishing this with the engine still installed. My concern is creating a larger mess on the surrounding engine bay, frame and components underneath, etc. I understand it's not preferred but how critical is the RustBlast step considering this scenario or how "removable" is the zinc left behind on ancillary surfaces? Welcome any "gotchas' and suggestions please. Thank you!

Does it make sense to use Rust Blast and a rust converter? Would it make a difference in which order they were used?

  23. Started by platboy,

Hi I just used Rust blast for the firest time in some freshly sandblasted car patch panels. I followed the instructions to the letter, with the exception of Aquaclean as it says it isn't required on freshly blasted metal. Now I have some areas that have the white residue, some areas that look as they did before (although a darker shade of grey) and some areas of brown which I am guessing is flash rust. It does in fact look exactly like the ***-** example on the website comparison. Is it better to agitate the rustbast with a bristle brush or similar (I just painted it on with a paint brush). I am not comfortable simply painting the Rust seal over this flash rust, as it is …

  24. Hi, I’m using the KBS tank sealer kit. After KBS Klean, my tank looked better (last of 3 pics, still wet). After Rust Blast, rinse and dry, it looks as rusty as before (first 2 pics) and does not appear to have the white zinc phosphate coating. Am I still good to proceed to the Tank Sealer step? Thanks, Jorts

I have a little bit of surface rust on the inside of my tank. I don't want to use a sealer to coat the inside I would just like to use the KBS Klean and Rust Blast to dissolve the rust. Is this something that should work for me?

I've been looking on the internet for some rust remover and came upon your RustBlast. Once this has been applied how long will it keep rust away. I really don't want to paint this piece that I have I just want to keep rust off it.

Hi, I was wondering if Rustblast is the correct product to use on a stone chip that has begun to rust. The stone chip is very small, but it's down to bare metal which has begun to rust. I was wondering if I could use Rustblast on the chip, then apply touch up paint.

  35. Got a few spare 19" Steel Rims that I got when I acquired my 1929 Antique Car. They have surface rust on them, I wire brushed them to remove most of the rust. I want to use RustBlast to seal and deal the rust left. Should I use KBS Klean first then Air Dry them out, then Apply the RustBlast. I am ONLY going to Prime them for now with a good Primer. Or what Steps should I take before I prime to ensure they are clean, rust is taken care of and will take the Primer and NOT Rust through or Primer Peal/ Flake off ?!?

  36. I have my "Rock Rails" off my Jeep Rubicon in for sandblasting. Both the outside and inside will be sandblasted. Rock rails are like 5 foot long steel triangular hollow tubes. The sand blasting can't do a great job inside of the tubes because it needs a 45 to 90 degree angle to really hit an area, thus the inside won't be down to bare metal or even close and there is a lot of rust. Thus, I am faced with sealing one end with say duct tape and pouring in the RustBlast and sealing the other end with duct tape and moving them around constantly for say an hour and letting RustBlast do it's magic. Two questions: 1) Do you think this will work? 2) How much in quantiy do you…

Hello there, I have a 1953 Famous James Superlux autocycle and the petrol tank was rusty. I bought the KBS KIT and used the Aqua clean and then the rust blaster. I kept the inside of the tank moist by rotating it. I put a few nuts and small chain in and shook it and rotated it as per utube. After an hour I drained and inspected tank and still spots of rust so I poured the rust blaster back in and repeated the process another two times. For a total of 5 hours. Still spots of rust in the tank where the zinc has not worked.I do not want to use the sealer over the rust. Any suggestions appreciated Gary

I forgot to rinse the rust blast off and let it dry. What can I do to correct this? I guess is that I can wet it again with rust blast and then rinse off. Howver, it is inside some of the seams and closed channels in the car body and may not rince completely. Your help will be greatly appreatiated.

I note most of the rust that is being removed in videos is basic surface red iron oxide. I have an area around the windshield opening of my 51 Chevy truck with serious black rust and holes. I plan of repairing the holes with epoxy putty. My question is what to do about the black oxide in the bottom of the deep pits. I have used an HD twisted wire wheel and die grinder to remove most of the rust and rot. I have even hit the area with a media blaster using ground glass but there is still a lot of black oxide spots as you can see in the picture. Will Rust Blast take care of these black rust spots? Should I use the epoxy putty directly on the dry and treated me…

  45. I have a motorcycle gas tank that is about 4 years old. I recently had some welding modification work done to it, so it sat unprotected without gas in it for about 2 months. As a result, it got flash rust inside it. Its a light coat, but otherwise the tank is perfect. I am sending off to painter and want to take care of the existing rust inside first. Important thing here is that I do not want to use the rust seal because I don't want it to fail in future. I purchased some aqua clean and rust blast and plan on using that. Do you use rustblast on sandblasted parts with no rust?

  48. Started by alanh,

I have a car with a wing that has rust bubbling. I think once the paint is stripped I may be left with a small hole or a few small holes, Am I correct in thinking that if I clean, strip the area back to clean/sound metal I can apply Aqua Klean and then once dry, apply rust blast over and into any rusted through holes and letting it soak for 30 minutes and then rinse and dry. Then is this ready to apply fibre glass from behind to seal up the holes and sand flat, then apply bondo/filler. Once cured I can apply 2k Primer and then topcoat with base and clear?? Do I need to use rust seal or zinc primer inbetween any of this??

I have nearly finished blasting my shell back to bare metal and could do with some advice on dealing with flash rust. Some slight flash rust has started to appear where I have blasted and I'd like to know from someone who knows better, will etch primer be okay to go over the top of it or should I prep the surface with something like rust blast. If I do put something on it like a phos acid it'll need neutralising by rinsing off with water, something that doesn't really appeal to me. As I wouldn't want any water getting trapped any where causing it to rust out of sight (in seams etc). Also if I were to use the phos what should I put down over the top of it, w…
