BlackTop is a single stage, moisture-cured, and UV stable coating. BlackTop is a high-performance protective coating specifically formulated to withstand dulling and fading caused by prolonged sunlight exposure. BlackTop is ideal for topcoating surfaces previously sealed with RustSeal or any other paint/primer application, and BlackTop also excels as a direct to bare metal coating, no primer required.

I'm trying to paint a vintage motorcycle frame however the gloss paint that kbs offers is too glossy and the satin is too dull. Is there a way to mix paints to roughly get 50% -75% gloss? Has anyone done this in the past? Thanks in adance Arnold

If using Black Top over sandblasted bare steel, what primer do you recommend? Even though it is a "chassis" paint, would there be any issues painting more UV exposed areas like running boards on a truck?

The directions say this about for black top paint. 'Do not shake can. Do not whip. Take the time to stir contents thoroughly making sure pigments are well-dispersed. Do not paint directly out of can. Dispense a working amount of Black Top into a separate container (steel or glass is best) and seal can immediately'. My question is why steel or glass? Should I use a paint strainer for black top paint or will it do something to the screen or glue in the strainer I ask this because I would like to use a Disposable Gravity Cup System with a screen in the bottom of the cup and I don't want to plug my spray gun.

If I scuff an automotive paint and clean the surface can I paint Rust Seal over it? I've heard these type of paints cause the paint underneath to come up.

Can a 2K clear be sprayed over Blacktop as soon as it is dry to the touch or does it need more curing before clearing? Thanks

I'm looking to use the black top on some bare metal. I really don't have any rust issues so I think I can get by with just painting the black top. Would this work? If not, what would you recommend?

I just bought a Brush Guard, its a little faded, and has a few dustings of rust in the corners. I would like to prep and paint it. I live in Florida which is 100% humidity. Is there a certain type of prep I should do/use to ensure the longest life?

Hey there, I just had some wheels powdercoated and noticed a number of spots where the powder is thin and not covering appropriately and I was just curious if I can black top on top of a cleaned powdercoated black and clear wheel and if it will adhere with no problems? I plan to follow the black top up with the clear topcoat KBS sells. Let me know if this is feasable. Thanks!

I just placed my very first order a few minutes ago for a red oxide frame coating kit. Looking forward to the application on my 2000 Ford F-350 chassis when I get it. I've gone ahead and did a LOT of prep work already, as I have the bed off and easy access to the frame rails. I've descaled it, and plan on having a pretty smooth surface once I'm done to be ready for paint. I am putting a brand new 7.5 ft. steel deck flatbed on in place of the oem bed, so the frame will be visible and I'd like to have a nice oxide red frame in contrast with the black cab and flatbed. Is it going to be OK to apply the KBS with a cheaper gravity fed spraygun from Harbor Freight Tools withou…

Can I paint the exposed interior metal parts of my 67 f100 with blacktop? Things like the dash, doors and pillars? This seems like an economical diy alternative for my daily driver than having it done professionaly at a paint shop. Also a follow up question. Is there any reason I couldn't or shouldn't paint my bumper or fenders with it as well? Thanks!

I just purchased two quarts of Blacktop Satin to paint my Jeep frame. I own three HVLP gravity feed spray guns, and each one has a different fluid tip. I have 1.4mm, 1.7mm, and 2.0mm. Which would be the best choice for spraying Blacktop satin, and how much thinning do you suggest?

I have a couple of '70s era motorcycle frames with original black paint. There is no rust and the original paint is solid and in good shape, but the paint needs to be freshened for a clean look. I am considering using BlackTop in lieu of full blasting down to bare metal and then powder coating. Can I use BlackTop over the existing factory paint (not sure if it is lacquer or enamel based) without stripping, and if so how should it be prepped? Can I simply scuff with sandpaper and/or scuff pads and apply BlackTop, or is a primer or base coat required? Also, one of the frames has already been coated with the competitor ROP-51 rust coating paint which is not UV stable…

Mostly dry, but fingerprints are visible. I sprayed with minimal thinner - less then 10%. I used DuPont lacquer thinner as the supply house said it would be fine. I have the parts hanging in the sun.nit is 85 degrees and 60% humidity.

I'm looking for a very low sheen finish but don't know whether to buy the satin or flat product? Is the flat truly flat or has a very low sheen? What about the satin? How can I tell without purchasing and taking a chance? Also, can I apply this paint directly onto aluminum or fiberglass? Thanks!

Whats your recommendation on thinning black cote to a spray gun with a 0.5 mm nozzle! Seems like 5-10% is a little on the low side! Chris All KBS paints will need to be thinned (except Fusion) by a ratio of between 5-10%.

Since my questions have moved from ClearCoat to BlackTop, I'll continue the questions I had in the ClearCoat forum here. Q1: I want the BlackTop to have maximum adhesion. What steps/products do you recommend to prepare the chrome surface before painting with BlackTop? Previously you mentioned sanding with 600-1200 sandpaper. How about cleaning the surface? Previously you said to add Adhesion Promoter to the BlackTop - so I'll do that. Q2: For the ClearCoat you said there was no problem with having Adhesion Promoter in coats after the first coat - is that also the case with BlackTop? Q3: Given that I'm brushing the BlackTop on, should the first coat be ligh…

Hi, I was wondering if you had performed the following tests on blacktop, and could post the results? Tests - ASTM-D2974 Impact Resistance ASTM-D3170 Gravelometer Chip Resistance ASTM-D4060 Taber Abrasion ASTM-D3363 Pencil Hardness ASTM-D522 1/8" Mandrel Bend *If possible please include any details about the substrate the KBS BlackTop was applied over for the use of these tests (Undercoat, surface preparation, etc.) My application requires a tough maintenance coating with easy application, and good mechanical properties. I wanted to know if KBS BlackTop could meet my requirements. Yours Sincerely, 'Steampunk'

Had a problem a few months ago with unopened Blacktop Satin Black (a full qt and a pint hard in the can) Talked with Jim (nice guy and very informative) who explained it was a problem with the flattening additive containing a minute amount of h2o, and that they were working on it. Ended up with a service ticket # but no resolution to my problem so I'm out 2 full cans of blacktop. It's been a few months now and I'm wondering if they have the short shelf life problem resolved. It's a fantastic product except for this issue and it's about the only MCU in satin black that's uv resistant. I'd like to try it again but with 2 cans on my shelf to remind me, I need to get some fee…
