April 5, 201610 yr comment_3647 I'm looking to use the black top on some bare metal. I really don't have any rust issues so I think I can get by with just painting the black top. Would this work? If not, what would you recommend? April 5, 201610 yr comment_3648 BlackTop is designed to go over RustSeal (rust preventive coating) and is not specifically designed to go to bare metal. That said, you should be able to get BlackTop to stick to bare metal if you do one of the following: 1) Sandblast the bare metal so you have a nice surface profile. Blow the sand residue off with clean air and then apply the BlackTop in thin covering coats. 2) Clean the bare metal surface with KBS Klean. Coat the cleaned bare metal surface with Fusion Self-Etch Primer. Then apply BlackTop in thin covering coats. If you are applying the BlackTop to a sandblasted surface, do not sand the surface with 320 grit because this will just smooth out the surface and could cause adhesion issues. Please let us know if that helps and if you have any additional questions.
