Arnold69cb750
I'm trying to paint a vintage motorcycle frame however the gloss paint that kbs offers is too glossy and the satin is too dull. Is there a way to mix paints to roughly get 50% -75% gloss? Has anyone done this in the past? Thanks in adance Arnold
KBS Coatings
Yes, you can absolutely mix the BlackTop Gloss and the BlackTop OEM Satin to get a custom sheen. The best way to do it is to start with a 1:1 mix and then adjust as needed. Always paint out test pieces and wait 24 hours to see the final sheen knowing that the sheen gets more satin as it cures. Please let us know if that helps and if you have any additional questions.
Arnold69cb750
Thank you for the advice. Do you have a formula for the ratio to get a 80-90% gloss. Would I do a 9:1 ratio of gloss to satin?
KBS Coatings
BlackTop Gloss is 90-95% gloss measured at 60 degrees so it sounds like you would just want to use BlackTop Gloss. If you wanted to bring the gloss down some, the best way to do it is to start with a 1:1 mix and then adjust as needed. As a very general rule, it is easier to get glossy and more difficult to get satin which is why we recommend starting at a 1:1 mix. Please let us know if that helps and if you have any additional questions.
