January 5, 201412 yr comment_2929 I have a couple of '70s era motorcycle frames with original black paint. There is no rust and the original paint is solid and in good shape, but the paint needs to be freshened for a clean look. I am considering using BlackTop in lieu of full blasting down to bare metal and then powder coating. Can I use BlackTop over the existing factory paint (not sure if it is lacquer or enamel based) without stripping, and if so how should it be prepped? Can I simply scuff with sandpaper and/or scuff pads and apply BlackTop, or is a primer or base coat required? Also, one of the frames has already been coated with the competitor ROP-51 rust coating paint which is not UV stable. Can I top coat over the ROP-51 with BlackTop, and if so do I use the same prep method as over the factory paint mentioned above? Any info is much appreciated. January 6, 201412 yr comment_2930 BlackTop is a great choice for motorcycle frames. Yes, you can apply BlackTop over the existing paint. Scuff the cured existing paint and clean the surface with a water based cleaner like KBS Klean. Then apply a few coats of BlackTop. The same is true for going over our competitor's paint. Scuff and clean with a water based cleaner like KBS Klean. Check out the BlackTop Directions HERE. Please let us know if that helps you out and if you have any additional questions.
