Lately, I have been seeing these viral videos about using a type of steam cleaning machine that hooks to an air compressor and uses a solution to clean grime. Has KBS Klean been used in one of these effectively? If this works, can you recommend a quality product for steam cleaning?

Good question, and those videos are fun to watch. Here is where things stand with KBS Klean and that type of setup.

KBS Klean is confirmed to work in power washing equipment for fast, deep cleaning on heavy buildup. It is water-based, low-foaming, non-flammable, and rinses without leaving a residue, so it holds up well when pushed through pressure equipment. That part is well established and on the label.

The compressor-fed steam or vapor units you are describing are a newer category, and we have not run KBS Klean through one of those specific machines to confirm performance or long-term compatibility with their internals. Because of that, we cannot point you to a specific unit as a recommendation. What I can tell you is that KBS Klean's non-corrosive, non-toxic, phosphate-free formula gives it a good shot at working well in that kind of equipment.

If you want to try it, I would run a small test batch through the machine first and check with the machine's manufacturer on chemical compatibility for its seals, hoses, and injector, since that is specific to the unit rather than to KBS Klean itself.

I appreciate the feedback as always. I would love to use KBS Klean in a pressure washer, which I have, but I am working out of my garage on my restoration and that amount of water would be an issue. The steam cleaners appear to use way less water which would be ideal for my situation.

I ended up testing a pneumatic degreasing gun ($15) and a steam machine ($114) and used 3 different dirty car parts to compare. I added some grease to each of the parts to make it a tougher job.

For this part, I used the pneumatic gun with a 5:1 solution of KBS Klean. It did a good job but didn’t clean off the grease until I agitated it all with a brush and sprayed it again. This was a good result with little effort.

For the second car part I used the steam machine which siphoned the same KBS Klean solution. This treatment was able to melt the grease away and get a good result in one pass but the sacrifice is time. The steam machine doesn’t produce much pressure so it takes a lot more time on one area to get it clean. And even though it only took one pass, agitating it with a brush and making a second pass produced a better result.

The third test was to test the steam machine with plain water and this was the worse result out of the three. I would not recommend.

Almost not worth posting until I agitated the part with a brush and made a second pass with the steam/KBS Klean solution again.

My take on the topic is that KBS Klean AND agitation are key to getting the best results from either the pneumatic gun vs steam. For the money and similar results the pneumatic gun is a keeper.

The steam machine is a bit fussy to work with and doesn’t have good pressure either. 🤙
