I have a very large 100 year old bell with mounts. It's a very rough cast iron surface. I used a wire wheel off my angle grinder to strip off old paint and rust. I'd like to use Diamond Finish Clear to protect the metal with it's current patina while it sits outside for the rest of it's life.  Can I use KBS Klean, the the Diamond Finish without having to also use the Rust Blast?

If Rush Blast is required, please advise why?

Yes, when doing a clear coat like DiamondFinish Clear, you do not want to use RustBlast as RustBlast leaves behind a white zinc phosphate powder that can cloud up a clear coat.

 

Clean the surface really well with KBS Klean and then rinse and dry immediately to prevent flash rust. You want to dry a cast surface really well because cast surfaces tend to hold on to moisture and moisture left on the surface can lead to a less than desirable final finish.

 

Once the surface is bone dry, apply DiamondFinish Clear in thin coats. You can apply as many coats as you need but they have to be thin coats.
