Motorcycle frame paint Kit question

Featured Replies

I'm planning to restore a 1970 Honda CB750 and i want to paint the frame using the KBS motorcycle frame kit.  The frame I have has faded paint and slight rust.  My question is do I need to remove the old paint or can I paint over the existing paint with the kit?  Also I have 3-4 frames that I would like to paint at the same time.  Can I use the blacktop chassis paint in a paint sprayer?  If so, how would you dilute the paint with paint thinner?  Thanks

It is always best to remove all of the old paint and start with a clean slate (so to speak). But, if that is just not possible, you can wire wheel to remove any loose paint and then scuff up the existing paint, clean the entire surface with KBS Klean and then etch any bare metal or rusty spots with RustBlast before the RustSeal and then BlackTop.

Yes, you can spray RustSeal and BlackTop with an HVLP sprayer. Spray pressure of 25-35psi (170-250kpa) for gravity/top container guns. As a general rule of thumb, we recommend a 1.4-1.6 tip size. Thinning is not generally required but if needed 5%-10% is normally adequate. Use KBS #1 Thinner only which is a slow evaporating solvent.

Please be sure to review the RustSeal Directions and BlackTop Directions.
