August 17, 201510 yr comment_3246 I don't have a good grasp on when primer should be used. I will be coating a new pair of de-greased cast iron exhaust manifolds. Do I understand your instructions to say two coats of cast iron gray will suffice instead of one coat primer + one coat gray? August 17, 201510 yr comment_3247 That is a great questions. The XTC Primer provides the rust protection. So, if your application will be exposed to the elements, then you will want to use the XTC Primer under the XTC. If your application will not be exposed to the elements, then 2-3 coats of XTC will work great for you. Please let us know if that helps and if you have any additional questions.
