June 17, 201510 yr comment_3174 Rust is formed when you have essentially 2 ingredients: metal and moisture. RustSeal is proven to seal up the metal when applied to a properly prepped surface and provide a non-porous coating which isolates the metal and moisture. When the metal and moisture do not come in contact with each other, you do not have rust. Rust is stopped dead in its tracks. RustSeal is proven to do just that. It is ideal to apply RustSeal straight to the metal, but you can also apply RustSeal over another coating if that is an option for you. You will want to make sure the already applied coating is adhered really well to the surface, scuff the coating with 320 grit and then clean with KBS Klean before applying a minimum of 2 thin, covering coats of RustSeal. Also, please be sure to check out the complete RustSeal Directions. We would appreciate it if you will let us know if that helps and if you have any additional questions.
