May 28, 201312 yr comment_2758 This is an older thread, but hopefully gets some attention... I was wondering if I should use KBS on the bottom of my aluminum jon boat, what type of prep should I do, and is it feasible? Thanks. May 28, 201312 yr comment_2761 If you are sand blasting, then you can apply 3 or more coats of RustSeal to seal up the bottom of your jon boat. Because the RustSeal will be exposed to sunlight, it would be a good idea to top coat the RustSeal with a solid color UV stable paint. If you are not sandblasting, you will want to wire wheel the bottom of the boat and then prep with KBS Klean and etch with RustBlast before applying 3 coats of RUstSeal followed potentially by a UV stable top coat paint. Please Note: RustBlast is still used even though the surface is aluminum as RustBlast is an acid etch that will etch the aluminum so the RustSeal gets excellent adhesion to the aluminum. Please let us know if you have any additional questions.
