RussellT
Hi, Can I use KBS Diamond Finish ClearCoat for adding a protective heat proof layer to an epoxy resin finished table? I am trying to prevent damage to the resin if things like hot coffee mugs, ornaments are placed on it. Should I be polishing the clear coat after applying or polishing the resin? Many thanks for the help Quote Link to comment https://success.kbs-coatings.com/topic/2912-final-coat-for-resin/ Share on other sites
KBS Coatings
DiamondFinish Clear goes over fully cured epoxy extremely well. No issues at all. Be sure the surface is clean. DiamondFinish Clear is good to 300F and for a table that is perfect. Hot mugs will be well under that temperature. DiamondFinish Clear can be cut and polished as a normal clear coat after 24 hours under normal conditions. In your application, you would polish the DiamondFinish Clear. Please review carefully the DiamondFinish Clear Directions. If you have any additional questions, please feel to reach out to us! KBS Coatings
30-75% Relative Humidity is ideal for application of DiamondFinish Clear. Please feel free to contact our European Distributor and he can get the products to you. tlever
Hi - I have a followup to the original post and answers above. I have found epoxy to definitely yellow over time if exposed to any daylight at all essentially. I know that the DiamondFinish Clear does not yellow in UV. If I put DiamondFinish Clear OVER an epoxy finish, will that stop the epoxy below it from yellowing? Or will the epoxy itself underneath the diamond still yellow? KBS Coatings
DiamondFinish Clear is formulated with UV absorbers. UV absorbers absorb UV rays for a period of time and that length of time is very dependent on UV strength and length of exposure. UV absorbers are not UV blockers. Clear coats do not block UV rays. With that in mind, DiamondFinish Clear will keep the epoxy from yellowing for a period of time but DiamondFinish Clear will not "stop the epoxy from yellowing" permanently. Hopefully that helps. Please reach out if you have any additional questions. tlever
Yes, that helps, thank you. That is what I figured, or a bit better than I figured. But still eventually yellowing will happen if it is outside, even if it isn't in direct sunlight. Thx.
