Strip on cast iron

Terry Micnhimer

Recommended Posts

I live in Houston, Texas. It has been cool but warmer than 55, probably around 60 to 65. The strip was applied on 4 different days to different areas.

The first time I didn't keep it wet other than the first spraying. I was having problems with the spray tip also, my problem. But this weekend I kept the areas wet with the strip product for about 15 minutes and waited another 10 min before beginning to remove it.

It works great on the surfaces that are not cast but on the cast parts it removes about 50% to 60%. A second application gets about 85% to 90% of the color. After drying a power wire brush does not remove any more of the color. It seems to work better on the areas where the casting is smoother.
