Temporary fix?

rc51

Recommended Posts

Hi all, I recently order the 3 step kit and am waiting for it to get to me.

The reason why I ordered the kit is because I noticed a fuel leak coming from my tank on my bike - 2000 honda RC51. Apparently this was a common problem on these bikes from that year.

Anyway, my question is... before the kit arrives and before I attempt to install it... how permanant and complete is this sealant kit supposed to work assuming it's installed correctly?

The reason I ask is because I wanted to have the tank rewelded over the winter as a permanent fix and I thought I might try this kit as a temporary fix so that I don't miss out on any of the riding season. But a friend pointed out to me that once I seal the inside of the tank, having the tank welded afterwards might not be an option sine the sealant might melt under the high temps of welding, causing contamination in the weld, making welding the tank afterwards not an option...

Thought? Advice? Thanks.
