I continued with painting and found 2nd coat covered much better and by 3rd coat was almost completely opaque. 3 coats though is a bit thick for reassembling these suspension parts. There was still a lack of coverage around sharply raised features (particulates appear to drain away before drying and leave clear coat). Maybe conditions were not optimum, I measured 72 degrees F. and 68% humidity. Still I was not expecting high gloss finish, that part was consistent at either black or clear areas.
